Sensei Paul Lynch is a world-class martial artist, former international competitor, and the founder of Leeds Martial Arts College (LMA). He began teaching after passing his black belt in 1991, then went full time on 13 September 1996. In those early years, he hired school and church halls while building towards the dream of leaving full-time employment for a dedicated martial arts, strength and conditioning studio. That journey led to LMA opening in 2002, followed by 30 years of coaching and shaping the minds, bodies, and characters of the next generation.
Paul's competitive martial arts career is defined by elite excellence. Before retiring from international competition, he cemented his legacy as a 13-time British Champion, the 1998 World Champion, and the 2000 European Champion. During his historic run at the WAKO European Championship in Italy, he famously battled through severe foot and knee injuries to capture the middleweight gold medal, cementing his reputation for unstoppable grit and resilience.
In 2002, Paul took his passion for martial arts in a new direction. Driven by a desire to give back to the community, he founded Leeds Martial Arts College on Commercial Street in Morley. Now operating out of well-equipped facilities at Alexandra Mills, LMA has grown into one of the UK's most successful independent Black Belt schools.
For Paul, martial arts has always been about more than just self-defence or winning trophies. He envisions his gym as a vehicle for character development, utilizing rigorous training to pass on essential life skills like focus, respect, self-discipline, and a healthy mindset. Whether training young children or elite adult athletes, Sensei Paul's mission remains the same: nurturing well-rounded individuals equipped to face challenges both in the ring and in life.
